Our 2017 Scholarship

Lake of the Ozarks Chapter of the Missouri Master Naturalist program is pleased to announce a scholarship program for the 2017-18 school year. Two grants will be available to as many as two prospective or existing college students who graduated from high school in Camden, Laclede, Miller, or Morgan County, or to students who currently reside in one of these counties. Students must be pursuing (or plan to pursue) a career in a conservation or natural resources field. This might include majors in forestry, wildlife management, biology, fisheries, parks and recreation, or natural resources. Says Chapter President, Bill Moulder, "The key to sustaining our natural resources is educating ourselves about the vital importance of conservation. By offering these scholarships we are investing in our future."

Scholarship awards for two students are available. Each award is in the amount of $1,000 with $500 payable for the Fall and $500 for the Spring semesters. Each amount will be paid directly to the scholarship recipient upon proof of enrollment. Funds may be used to cover books, tuition or fees.

Further questions and completed applications may be directed to Terri Thompson at the Missouri Department of Conservation office in Camdenton, MO - Ph: (573) 346-2210 x 223 or e-mail: terri.thompson@mdc.mo.gov. "We know there are many qualified students who are seeking financial help to complete their studies in a conservation related field. This scholarship is an attempt to help them reach their educational potential and to make a significant contribution to preserve the natural beauty and quality of life in our area," says Jodi Moulder, the MDC adviser to the Lake Ozarks Chapter of Missouri Master Naturalist program.

Members of the Missouri Master Naturalist, Lake of the Ozarks Chapter share a common interest in nature and in volunteering to help protect, preserve, and restore Missouri's natural heritage. This active group is sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation and the University of Missouri Extension. Members volunteer their time and effort in support of many area projects. These include volunteering during Eagle Days and at Nature Centers, for local Stream Teams and Missourians for Monarchs, and to develop pollinator gardens and educational walking or hiking trails.
